Pacific International Trapshooting Association eNews for December 2011

From Jen Carter, President
What does the Executive Committee do?
I used to think that the Executive Committee just showed up at the Grand Pacific and ran that shoot. HA! Little did I know how much work really goes into producing an event of that magnitude. When I first joined the board we would meet two or three times per year and conduct all of our business at those meetings. An average meeting would last 12 hours or more. Now, we meet about once each month via an internet conference call. Those meetings generally last 1-2 hours and we all have an up-to-date picture of what is going on with the association and what we need to be working on. We try to meet in person at least once or twice during the year, usually at a State Shoot or a place where we haven’t met before. Last year we all met in Fallon, Nevada for their State Shoot. I was so excited when we drove through town and saw this hanging right in the middle of the main street through town.

During these off-season months we spend a lot of time getting people to advertise in the yearbook and program, arranging for sponsorships for the various events, looking for trophies, arranging extra-curricular activities for the Grand Pacific and looking for ways to improve our association. In addition, Sue & Rusty do about 4.5 million other things that keep us running every day.
You may have noticed that Idaho PITA holds a Texas Hold’em tournament two nights each year at the Grand Pacific. Wouldn’t it be great if each State and Provincial Association were to sponsor some sort of event like that? It doesn’t even have to be a new event. We have the Ladies Pink Target Event, The Small Gauge Championships, YES events, The 5 from 40. Really, if you want to do something that will benefit the shooters and make this event more enjoyable, we’re willing to work with you to make it happen.
Every year we have openings on this board and we are always looking for people who are willing to volunteer their time to help run this association. Right now, we’re represented by members from Alaska, California, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, & Washington but it would be great if we eventually had a representative from each State and Province. I won’t tell you that it is an easy job, but it can be very rewarding and I have really enjoyed my time participating with this group of people and the membership at large.
If you’re not interested in committing to a board position but you still want to help, we can always use volunteers. Particularly at the Grand Pacific but also at other shoots throughout the year. Please contact a member of the Executive Committee if you’re interested in helping at the Grand Pacific. We have a wide variety of jobs available and we would love to have the help. It can be for a few hours or the whole week. Whatever you like, however you would like to help, we’re here to work with you.
I hope you all have a great Christmas Season and I look forward to seeing you soon.

From Sue Brewer Secretary:
RULE CHANGE – EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY (PLEASE POST):
In the Corporate By-Laws Article VII- Rules Committee Section E can be found the “Urgency Clause” Established in 2005. It is a seldom used mechanism whereby the Central Handicap Committee with the Executive Committee may address issues in our Rules in a timely manner. The Clause has very specific requirements and any action is subject to membership review at the annual meeting.
On November 28, 2011, the Urgency Clause was used to address concerns about the implementation of some provisions of the new rule requiring shooters to shoot their longest yardage. The problems were centered on the requirement that in a PITA event the shooter’s card would be punched to his/her longest yardage and be reported to the PITA office, thus becoming their official yardage assignment. Then in some instances the shooter would receive an automatic review and yardage reduction by ATA and fail to make application to PITA for a matching reduction. This led to concerns the inherent confusion would result in a loss of attendance at PITA events in some areas.
By unanimous vote the Committees concluded to strike the requirements to punch and report a shooter when he/she is required to shoot their longest yardage. There is no change in the requirement that a shooter must shoot his/her longest yardage held in either the ATA or PITA Association.
The net result is a shooter must shoot their longest held ATA/PITA yardage on a shoot by shoot basis. This change is effective immediately.
The Executive Committee also made a change to page 3 of the Rulebook in regard to the use of cross registered targets when applying for a yardage reduction. As all handicap targets are now shot from your longest yardage they may be used when applying for a reduction provided the reduction is from this longer yardage. This change becomes effective January 1, 2012.
SNOWBIRD SPECIAL:
Shoot PITA registered targets while supporting the Arizona PITA State Association. Casa Grande is hosting PITA shoots on December 5 & 6 and again on January 9 & 10 in sunny Casa Grande, Arizona. They also offer cross registration at all of their ATA shoots. The Arizona State shoot is scheduled March 5 & 6, hope to see you there. For more information contact Laurie or Tiger at the Casa Grande Gun Club, 970-376-6906 or email shootatCGTC@aol.com.
